FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What will school look like for 2020-21?

We are thrilled to offer an amazing in school program for our community this year. Please refer to the Our Programs page for additional information.

Q. When will the Board make the decision around the following month’s program offerings?

The Board will meet each month to determine the next month’s offerings. The membership will be advised by the 25th of each month of the plan for the following month.

Q. What if more students want to attend in-person than proposed class size allows?

In the event we have more interest than the proposed class size, we will fill the classes in the following order:

1st Priority: Returning Families

2nd Priority: Alumni

3rd Priority: Families new to the school

Q. When will we bring more students back into the school?

We will increase class size when the board feels it is safe to do so. We will interview the families currently enrolled in the in-class program, review the county COVID numbers and talk with the other coop preschool directors in the area. This decision is not going to be made on one or two indicators but a series of quantitative and qualitative measures.

Q. When will we add parent participation to the school?

We will utilize parents when we return to In-Class programming.

Q. Will there be dedicated toys and materials for each class?

The teachers will take inventory of toys and materials per class during the month of September. They will then determine if additional items need to be purchased to minimize exposure to other classes. There will be specific toys available for the one and two day class as they tend to mouth things more often than the older children.

Q. What is the plan once it starts raining?

We are so fortunate to have the outdoor space at SJPPNS. If we are in school during the rainy season, we will still continue with all safety precautions and class time will be spent both indoors and outdoors. While indoors, all doors and windows will remain open to air-flow throughout the classroom.

Q. What personal items can be brought and stored at school?

A change of clothes, shoes and water bottles can be brought to class in a clear gallon size plastic bag. Each child will be given a storage crate to store their personal items.

Q. What if my child is upset? Will teachers and/or parents be allowed to hug, carry, console my child?

We will do whatever the child requires to meet their emotional needs.

Q. Will all aspects of the indoor classroom be open?

The kitchen station will be the only area not open to the students. All other appropriate activities will be moved outside.

Q. Will we have snack time?

There will be no snack time this year. The board will monitor this on a monthly basis. We encourage your children to have a snack before school begins.

Q. Is there financial aid in the event a family member has lost their job?

Financial aid will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis as in previous years. Members are encouraged to email the President in confidence at president@sanjoseparents.org.

Q. What are our committee and fundraising responsibilities?

All members of the SJPPNS community will be asked to support the successful, continued operations of our cooperative school, with allowances made for concerns regarding in-person interaction.

Q. What if I want to enroll my child in dance lessons, another daycare, soccer or other activities this Fall?

The updated September 5, 2020 Santa Clara County Public Health guide states that children should be enrolled in only ONE program within the same three-week period. In order to be in compliance with this directive, we ask that all families commit to having their children only enrolled in SJPPNS this year. This policy will be monitored and any changes will be communicated to the community. If you choose to do another program while enrolled in at-home that is fine. However, your child will not be able to join the in-class program until 3 weeks have passed since the end of their previous program.

Q. What if I want to dis-enroll my child and wait until school returns to “normal”?

Please note that if you choose this option, you will be at the bottom of the school’s wait-list.
